Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Onsite Field Supervisor
- Supervision and Leadership: Directs and manages the HDD crew, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols, operational procedures, and project requirements.
- Technical Oversight: Monitors drilling progress, reviews real-time data, identifies and resolves technical challenges, and ensures the wellbore is properly aligned.
- Safety Management: Enforces strict adherence to safety regulations, conducts regular inspections, and ensures the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Equipment Management: Oversees the maintenance and operation of HDD equipment, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring optimal performance.
- Communication: Maintains clear and consistent communication with the drilling crew, superintendents, owners, engineers, and other relevant personnel regarding project progress, issues, and safety concerns.
- Quality Control: Ensures that all work is completed to the required standards and specifications, including proper alignment, depth, and location of the bore path.
- Documentation: Maintains accurate records of drilling activities, including daily logs, inspection reports, and any incidents or near misses.
- Training and Development: May provide training and guidance to less experienced crew members, helping them improve their skills and proficiency in HDD operations.
- Resource Management: Monitors material consumption and project budgets, helping to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Experience in HDD Onsite Field Supervisor : Typically requires 2-3 years of experience in horizontal directional drilling, with at least 1 year specifically as an onsite field supervisor.
- Proficiency with Locating Equipment: Familiarity with various HDD equipment and locating systems like DCI Falcon, Vermeer Drilling equipment, or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of Underground Utilities: Understanding of utility markings, blueprints, and safety procedures.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate with the owners, inspectors, clients, and other team members.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, and work in various weather conditions.
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is often required, and a Class A CDL is required.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Locator
- Operate HDD Locating Equipment: Utilize specialized equipment, such as DCI Falcon or Subsite systems, to track the drill head’s position, depth, and direction.
- Plan and Guide Bore Paths: Work with project plans and blueprints to determine the best route for the drill, ensuring it aligns with specifications and avoids obstacles.
- Communicate with the Drill Operator: Provide clear and concise instructions to the drill operator based on the locating equipment readings and job requirements.
- Locate and Avoid Utilities: Identify and mark the location of existing underground utilities to prevent damage during drilling operations.
- Perform Pre-Job Planning: Conduct site visits, assess ground conditions, and prepare for the drilling process.
- Maintain Equipment: Ensure the proper functioning of the locating equipment and perform routine maintenance.
- Assist with General Construction Tasks: Participate in tasks such as potholing, equipment setup, and site cleanup as needed.
- Adhere to Safety Procedures: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols for working in and around construction sites.
- Communicate with Stakeholders: Maintain professional communication with crew members, clients, and other relevant parties.

Jack and Bore Operator
- Operating Equipment: The operator controls the directional drill and other related machinery to bore and install underground utilities.
- Site Preparation and Setup: This includes excavating launch and receiving pits, setting up the boring machine, and attaching the casing pipe and auger.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensuring the worksite is safe, following safety protocols, and maintaining awareness of surroundings to avoid hazards like underground utilities.
- Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance on equipment, such as greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs, as well as pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Coordination and Communication: Working with other crew members, following hand and audio signals, and communicating effectively to ensure smooth operations.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining records of material and equipment usage, as well as any problems encountered during the process.
- General Labor: Assisting with tasks like potholing, digging, and placing conduit/duct/cable.
- Post-Work Cleanup: Clearing the work area, refilling trenches, and restoring the site to its original condition.
- Equipment Operation: Experience with directional drills, hydro vacs, and other relevant machinery.
- Knowledge of Jack and Bore Process: Understanding of the method, including the use of augers, mud systems, and other equipment.
- Safety Awareness: A strong understanding of safety protocols and the ability to identify and avoid hazards.
- Communication and Teamwork: Ability to effectively communicate with team members and work collaboratively.
- Physical Stamina and Dexterity: Ability to perform manual labor, including digging, lifting, and operating tools.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret blueprints and construction layouts.
- Valid Driver’s License: In some cases, a valid driver’s license may be required.
Directional Drilling Operator
The Directional Drilling Operator will be primarily responsible for setup and completion of drilling various sized underground holes and pulling back required conduit. Drilling Operator will work with the Supervisor, the Locator and the Laborers to complete job requirements from start to finish on outside projects including digging boring pits, directional boring, pulling back of conduit, splicing of conduit sections, pulling fiber through conduit, setting hand holes, backfilling and seeding, core drilling and pot holing, building penetrations and close out pictures and redlines.
Responsibilities:- Operate Horizontal Directional Drill
- Assist in potholing and remediation
- Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie ins
- Drive equipment to job site
- Confirms with locator/lead the bore path to drill
- Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine
- Drill out following the predetermined drill path to the exit pit
- Communicate with the locator/lead via radio to confirm the location of the drill head
- Assist with the install of proper pulling gear and hook up product
- Reverse process to install product
- Oversee laborers and/or crew member’s work and monitor time usage
- Conduct post-job quality checks
- Clean, check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
- Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required paperwork (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, etc.)
- Follows specifications for the job and company policies
- Complies with safety procedures while driving and at job site
- Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work
- 1+ years of demonstrated Horizontal Directional Drilling experience
- Strong knowledge of underground utilities
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations (Vehicle and Operator Qualifications)
- Understanding of client and company work specifications
- Ability to comply with the “Operator’s Manual” for your particular equipment
- Ability to read and comprehend and follow all quality/safety policies and procedures
- Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded
- Maintain valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A, with airbrake endorsement)
- Ability to work in all types of weather
- Knowledge of underground pot holing preferred

Must be willing to stay out of town if necessary. Glory will pay for per diem and your hotel room.
Prerequisites:- Must complete and pass a pre‐employment drug & alcohol screen.
- Must be able to pass background and pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to work long hours and weekends if needed.
- Ability to travel as required and possibly staying out of town when necessary.
